Mini never charge full
After 2 months with it installed I haven’t managed a full charge of the battery once. At first customer service was horrible now we got many engineers coming with no results
Total mess with instalation team.
Without going much into details just to highlight few things:
They work with incompetent contractors and when something goes wrong they refuse to take responsibility
I am out of the pocket £1200 already because their contractor gave me the wrong advice for the ground works.
You can never speak to the account manager or if you request to speak to management it is hopeless.
All communication goes via email and takes on average 3-4 days to get a response to a simple question
It’s been over 6 months and I am still struggling to come to a solution with them and have to charge my car at other public places
NOT CERTIFIED - BUYER BEWARE
“NOT CERTIFIED” – BUYER BEWARE!
PodPoint has stolen over 500 pounds from me. They admitted in emails to me from the Head of Complaints that their engineers are NOT certified to complete the job. They have refused to offer a refund and they have also refused to pay for a third party engineer to finish the job that I paid them to do. I am now left with a PodPoint Charger on my house that is disabled until I pay a third-party engineer to complete their work. This will cost me an additional £300 (estimate).
My house was built in the 80s. It is NOT old by any standard. PLEASE use another company to meet your needs. You won’t regret it; I promises you! PodPoint will NOT have your back; they will NOT fulfil their end of the bargain. They will instead, throw the Ts&Cs at you and say it is your fault.
Get tethered
Works well .Long tethered cable best . Lots more convenient than separate one particularly when raining .
Pod Point untethered - Does the Job
Got a 3.6 solo for my LEAF, didn’t cost me a penny due to the garage discounting. LEAF only charges at 3 so didn’t see the point in spending the extra for no benefit.
Never had an issue charging. The app could be better and doesn’t pickup dynamic tariff pricing, you have to enter one value. The duration of charge is from when you plug-in to when you unplug and finish the charge, should just register charging times only.
Every time you change provider you need to reconnect the charger to you WiFi, connecting to the charger and then adding the details to connect to your own. Had to split the WiFi into 2.4 and 5ghz to connect for some reason.
There are a lot of missing features in the app and for the charger. Where I paying myself I’d have got a zappi, couldn’t turn down a free charger though, never missed a charge in the 1.5 years I’ve had it.
If its free get it if not there are better ones.
Pod-Point aftercare
The pod works well and installation was efficient. However, we could never connect it to an iPhone as promised, and support was atrocious. It took three emails, two phone calls and about two months to get agreement for an engineer to come out. Then got an email with a date and time. When asked to click on confirm a message came up confirming a different time.
A great reliable chrager
A great charger. Worked first time when connected to the new car. Connects wirelessly to home wi-fi to give charging metrics on a phone App. Reliable. Load balancing is a good feature which not all chargers have. Easy to use. We chose untethered to give the option of a longer cable if we ever needed it. Installation was simple, although I opted to use our own electrician as I wanted a second consumer unit installing and we had a number of thick walls the cable cable needed routing through. Our electrician did the Pod-Point online course to become an accredited Pod-Point installer. Would definitely recommend this charger.
Simply does the job
When I was deciding on a home charger, I wasn’t bothered about high-tech, V2G or solar-panel compatible units – I just wanted a basic, no fuss charger and that’s exactly what my teathered Pod Point unit is.
I plug in…
It charges my car…
It switches off when it’s full…
Simple…!
Good charger, below average app
We had a tethered Pod-Point charger installed by an extremely helpful and efficient electrician from API. After three months of use I can say that it charges effectively and we have had no problems at all on that score.
I wish I could say the same of the app. It took over two weeks to get a problem with the app recognising our installed point, and in the end Pod-Point had to connect it at their end, which seems to defeat the point! Since then the app has stayed connected until recently when it has lost the connection and the only way I could reconnect (it appears) was by logging out of the app and then back in again. A misleading error message said there was a problem with the connection and to contact support.
As to the app itself, when it’s working it is very basic indeed. It has three sections:
1. Account:
You can input your local electricity supplier and tariff and it will work out how much it’s costing you. You can get the Pod-Point’s unique PSL number (which is needed to connect the app to the charger). You can input the details of your vehicle. You can add a payment card for use when you use a public Pod-Point charger.
2. Stats
You can view summary reports of usage on screen for a selected week or month. There is a very basic filter you can apply which is to show all charging sessions or just public ones. This tells you the total electricity added and the average per day and displays a bar chart showing charge input per day (both home and public). Individual day charge sessions can be viewed but you have to tap several times to drill down to the details (which show: energy added, total duration, start time and end time). You can also download a csv file which can then be manipulated in a spreadsheet. To do this you select the date range you want and tap “Done”. One issue with the download is that you must be viewing the app in portrait orientation because in landscape you can’t see the “Done” button when selecting date range, and can’t scroll down (but you don’t know this as there’s nothing on screen to tell you!) You can choose to include business miles (though as I don’t have business travel I can’t comment on this) and then tap Export. The report is sent to your email address and in my experience comes very quickly. The report comprises of columns for Name, Date, Cost, kWh Consumed, Type of point used, Address of point used, and rows for each charging session, and finally a total cost for the period covered.
Another issue is that the app does not record when charging finishes (i.e. “end time” is when you unplug the charger) so if you have plugged the car in overnight, at say 6pm, and then unplug it at say 8am, it will report a charging time of 14 hours even if the battery was fully charged sooner than that. Luckily this doesn’t effect the cost calculation and that’s based on how much input was needed to charge the battery, but this is far from ideal reporting.
3. Locate:
This is an interactive map that enables you to search for and locate Pod-Point charging points (using Google maps). If you tap on a location it will tell you where it’s located (e.g. Tesco Extra – Manchester Gorton), how far away it is, how many sockets there are, what type of sockets (and speed) and where the points are available, plus what the cost to charge will be. You can also get directions. You can search the map for a charge point and filter searches by charge point type. The map is zoomable. Basically this is a pretty good locate service, though limited to Pod-Point chargers only so you’d be better using something like Zap-Map which will show you a whole range of suppliers.
A reliable charger
The Pod-Point has performed reliably for the 4 months I have owned it.
Fast and no mess
